Romania: Takeover day 2014

To commemorate the signing of the Convention on the Rights of the Child this 20 November, Fondation d’Harcourt will be supporting Takeover Day in Romania as part of our project there. Takeover Day is an initiative by Terre des Hommes Lausanne (TdH) in which young people are given the opportunity to try out the job of their dreams for one day.

It is the second year Takeover Day is carried out, and we are very proud to announce that thousands of young people are participating. This bold initiative by TdH gives vulnerable children a taste of what they can achieve if they set their minds to it.

During Takeover Day children are paired up with a mentor in the field/position of their choice and take on the pertinent responsibilities of the job. We ultimately gear this hands-on experience towards motivating these young people to stay in school, continue their education and pursue their dreams.

Most of the participants live in very disadvantaged areas and have never left their communities. To make sure that they are able to get the most out of this experience, we provide mini-grants to pay for transport and clothes when necessary.

A career of choice is a dream that every child ought to be allowed to harbor and, ultimately pursue. One of the reasons we love Terre des Hommes’ Takeover Day is because it gives so much value to this intangible need. The possibility to realize one’s dreams through education, regardless of one’s economic situation.
